BookCompass does not require sign-in and keeps recommendation context at the session level.

Your taste profile — the books you rate, add to your reading list, or mark as not interested — is stored only in your own browser (local storage). With each recommendation request, a short summary of it (titles, authors, and your reactions) is sent to generate picks for you; we do not keep a copy tied to you. Clearing your browser's site data, or “Start over” on the Your taste page, erases it.

Book details and covers come from Open Library. Searches you make on the “Rate books” page are sent to Open Library to find matching books.

We use Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Analytics to measure pageviews, referral sources, device and browser mix, and key product interactions such as wizard starts, shortlist requests, provider clicks, reactions to picks (for example “liked” or “not interested”, without your full profile), and share-link copies.

Free-text notes are used only to generate or refine recommendations. They are not sent to Google Analytics. Analytics events include only non-content metadata such as whether a note existed or how long it was.

Do not submit highly sensitive personal data through the recommendation form.
